California Tapestry Artist Offering Workshops in Massachusetts

Tricia Goldberg will be teaching 2 workshops in Massachusetts this summer.

Tapestry: From Image to Loom.

From the beginning of a design inspiration to the final woven tapestry, you will be guided in choosing colors, patterns, and techniques. Students will weave with fine wool yarns on a small portable loom and learn tapestry techniques such as hatchings, hachures, and eccentric or non-horizontal weaving. Students with previous tapestry or other weaving experience will learn about using Aubusson bobbins, weaving from the back, creating perfect circles, and the potential for advanced color blending, among other things. Beginners will be delighted by their success in producing their first small tapestry. All levels welcome.

The Art of Tapestry Weaving with Tricia Goldberg

A workshop with California tapestry artist Tricia Goldberg on June 27–29, 2014, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at Ruth Flohr's studio in Shutesbury, MA (near Amherst).

You’ll weave with fine wool yarns and learn basic tapestry techniques, using a small design of your own or one provided. Tricia will discuss how and why artists use design and color and help you explore your own way of working. Experienced tapestry weavers can learn more advanced techniques and solve specific technical problems. Small looms and all materials will be available. All levels are welcome.

About the Artist:

Tricia has been weaving, exhibiting, and teaching tapestry for over twenty-five years. She teaches in her studio in Berkeley, CA, and is excited to be offering workshops on the East Coast this summer. Tricia weaves commissioned tapestries and exhibits widely. Exploring the World of Fibers at Lexarts

Celebrating the recent transformation of the LexArt Weavers Guild into the Weaving and Fiber Arts Guild, Lexington Arts and Crafts Society is hosting a juried exhibition of New England fiber artists. Exploring the World of Fibers , January 8 - 30, 2022. Opening reception January 9, 2-4 pm with a lecture by Julia Mitchell. Hours: Tuesday- Friday 11-5, Saturday & Sunday 10-5. Closed Mondays.
