TAPESTRY WEAVERS in NEW ENGLAND

There are 2 tapestry exhibits coming up in Deerfield, Massachusetts.  The Art is the Cloth (curated by Micala Sidore) will be at its third venue, at Deerfield Academy's von Auersperg Gallery , and there will be an exhibit of the work of 13 TWiNE members at the Deerfield Arts Bank .  Both exhibits will include programming. There will be 2 tapestry demonstrations at Deerfield Arts Bank, by Tamar Shadur on April 2 (6-8pm) and by Janet Austin on April 12 (4-6pm). Emporium Framing and Gallery in South Berwick, Maine is having their annual Holiday Exhibit, November 15 - January 31, 2015. Open house will be Friday, December 5th, 5-8pm, during S. Tricia Goldberg will be teaching 2 workshops in Massachusetts this summer. JUNE 21-23, 2014, Snow Farm, Williamsburg, MA Tapestry: From Image to Loom.  From the beginning of a design inspiration to the final woven tapestry, you will be guided in choosing colors, patterns, and techniques. Students will weave with fine wool yarns on a small portable loom and learn tapestry techniques such as hatchings, hachures, and eccentric or non-horizontal weaving. Students with previous tapestry or other weaving experience will learn about using Aubusson bobbins, weaving from the back, creating perfect circles, and the potential for advanced color blending, among other things. Beginners will be delighted by their success in producing their first small tapestry. TWiNE member Betsy Wing has 21 of her tapestries hanging in the Hartness Library at Vermont Technical College, Randolph, VT, alongside double woven pieces by Susan Rockwell. There will be a gallery talk on Sunday, March 2, at 3pm. The exhibit continues until March 31, 2014. Library hours: Sunday  2pm - 10pm Monday - Thursday  7.30am - 10 pm Friday  7.30 am - 5pm Saturday  10am - 3pm
